Course Reflection: PR Strategies and Digital Marketing Mastery

In this course, I have deepened my understanding of strategic public relations and digital marketing approaches, particularly in the areas of press rooms, EPKs (Electronic Press Kits), and their role in brand communication. When I set my original Mastery goal, I aimed to develop effective PR and digital marketing strategies that leverage media literacy and audience engagement. This course has provided critical insights into the interplay of strategy, media, and content creation, ultimately contributing to my leadership development and professional growth.


One of the significant objectives of this course was to understand how an effective press room contributes to an organization’s public relations strategy. Through the Week 3 Discussion Assignment on Press Rooms and EPK Integration, I learned the importance of creating a cohesive, accessible press room that aligns with a brand’s voice and public image. I found that an optimized press room not only serves as a resource for journalists but also strategically positions a brand in front of its target audience. This assignment taught me how to curate and organize relevant content that conveys professionalism and trustworthiness.


Another key learning objective focused on the measurement and evaluation of PR campaigns using the Barcelona Principles. During the Week 2 Discussion on Goals, Tactics, and Measurement, I explored the distinction between outcome and activity measures. This framework helped me understand how to effectively gauge the impact of PR events beyond vanity metrics like impressions or likes. As someone working on a case study for Puttshack, these insights have been crucial in developing more results-oriented metrics for their campaigns.


Finally, the emphasis on digital marketing strategy throughout the course has been invaluable. The case study assignments, particularly those centered on Puttshack, challenged me to think critically about content calendars, local search optimization, and PR measurement plans. Learning to integrate these elements has helped me move closer to my goal of becoming a well-rounded content creator and digital marketer.


Going forward, I plan to apply these learnings to my ongoing projects, including Project Rejuvenile. The strategies discussed in this course align perfectly with the goal of building an engaging, rebellious brand for kidults and rejuveniles. By leveraging a strategic approach to PR and creating a clear measurement plan, I can ensure that the content resonates with the target audience while meeting growth objectives.
